COOKIN’ WITH SALSA is a set of Studies and Exercises exploring Salsa, also known as Afro-Cuban or Latin music. Designed to be realized on piano or on keyboards as small as 61 notes, this work is unique because, unlike the many books which concentrate on percussion instruments, it is designed for piano ad keyboards players. As well as outlining many of the more important keyboard techniques involved in playing SALSA, an additional focus of this work is the relationship of the BASS to the PIANO part, or GUAEJOO. Terms such as SALSA,GUAGUANCO, MAMBO, and GUAJEO are briefly and clearly defined,, and CLAVE, the single most important aspect of Salsa is very well explained. The 12 exercises are designed to familiarize early learners with clave and its relationship to the piano part. They prepare learners to perform the bass part, and they provide other physical tools for the studies, which range from quite easy to complex. The studies in Book 1 explore BOLERO-CHA, GUAJIRA, SON MONTUNO, SON and Havana-style GUAGUANCO. This exciting new work contains important information which is clearly explained, and will benefit any keyboard player or, for that matter, anyone else who is interested in SALSA.
